It is a gathering of Cadet counselors from all over North America. The primary function of this event is education -- equipping men so that they can be more effective servants of the Lord in their clubs and councils. Education comes first, but the convention committee does not overlook the fact that this gathering provides the perfect setting for fellowship and inspiration. Motivational speakers and entertainment encourage the counselors to honor the Lord with their best efforts in the upcoming Cadet season.
It is held in various locations, depending on which of the more than forty Cadet councils hosts the event. The convention is held in July or August and is promoted here and in Cadet publications.
The counselor's family is encouraged to attend. In fact, the host council prepares special programs and activities for the children and special workshops and events for the spouses. The annual convention has been a part of the cadeting experience since 1960.
The 2007 Cadet Counselors' Convention celebrated fifty years of Cadeting for the Grand Rapids North Council, but much more than that, it celebrated God's promise to be our guide and strength in passing on the torch of faith from one generation to the next. We found time to reflect on what God had done through cadeting and we came away eager to see what God was going to do through us in this coming season. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
