Spring Project – Clay Garden Gnomes

Follow these instructions and make your own clay garden gnomes!

Materials You’ll Need

  • Air-Dry Clay
  • Pencil
  • Acrylic Paints
  • Paint Brushes
  • Thin Black Marker

Instructions (see video for details/example)

  1. Sculpt the gnomes
  2. Smooth the clay gnomes using water
  3. Allow clay gnomes to dry and harden
    • dry time can vary
    • flip gnomes after a few hours to dry evenly
  4. Draw your gnomes’ designs with a pencil
  5. Paint your gnomes with acrylic paint
    • paint all sides of your gnomes
  6. When paint is dry, use a thin black marker to add eyes, nose, and mouth to your gnomes
  7. Place gnomes in garden as decor or use as plant labels
