Fall Project – Tin Can Lanterns

Follow these instructions and build your own tin can lanterns!

Materials You’ll Need

• Tin cans
• Paper
• Marker
• Rubber bands
• Nails (various sizes)
• Hammer
• Spray paint
• Tea light candles or battery-operated tea lights

Instructions (see video for details/example)

1. Remove labels from cans and clean thoroughly
2. Fill cans with water or wet sand and freeze
3. Plan and draw your design(s) on paper with marker
4. Cut designs down to sizes that will fit your cans
5. Attach designs to cans using rubber bands
6. Use hammer and nails to punch holes in the cans, following your design
   • Use smaller/larger nails for more/less detail
7. Let ice melt and remove from cans
8. Spray cans with spray paint and allow to dry
9. Place tea light candles (or battery-operated tea lights) in cans to illuminate your design
