Why Summer Events Strengthen Cadet Friendships

Friendships are one of the most meaningful parts of a boy’s experience in Cadets.

Week after week, boys gather to learn skills, build projects, and grow in their faith. But something special happens when those same boys step outside the regular meeting schedule and spend extended time together – especially in the summer.

Summer events don’t just add to the Cadet experience.
They deepen it.

Time Changes Everything

During the regular Cadet season, time is limited.

Meetings are structured. Activities move quickly. Conversations are often short.

Summer events create space for something different.

When boys spend multiple days together – working, playing, eating, and worshiping side by side – friendships begin to grow in deeper ways. Conversations become more natural. Shared experiences become more meaningful. Bonds become stronger.

Time allows friendships to move beyond surface level.

Shared Challenges Build Strong Bonds

There is something about facing challenges together that strengthens relationships.

Setting up camp.
Cooking meals outdoors.
Completing group activities.
Working through unexpected problems.

These moments require teamwork, patience, and communication. They also create shared memories – stories that boys will remember and talk about long after the event is over.

When boys overcome challenges together, they build trust.

And trust is the foundation of lasting friendship.

Unplugged and Present

Summer events often pull boys away from the distractions of everyday life.

Less screen time.
More face-to-face interaction.
More time outdoors.

Without constant digital interruption, boys are free to be present with each other. They laugh more, talk more, and engage more fully.

In a world filled with distractions, this kind of focused connection is increasingly rare – and incredibly valuable.

Faith Shared Together

One of the most important elements of Cadet friendships is shared faith.

Summer events provide opportunities for group devotions, worship, and meaningful conversations about God’s Word. These moments help boys see that their friendships are not just built on shared interests, but on a shared foundation in Christ.

Praying together.
Singing together.
Learning together.

These experiences unite boys in a deeper way and encourage them to stand firm in their faith alongside one another.

Memories That Last

Ask a former Cadet what they remember most, and many will point to experiences outside the regular meetings – campouts, trips, and special events.

Why?

Because those moments are immersive. They are different from everyday life. They are filled with laughter, challenge, and connection.

The friendships formed during these experiences often last for years, sometimes even a lifetime.

Looking Ahead: Kamp Longview

This is exactly why events like the 2026 Cadet International Camporee – Kamp Longview are so significant.

From July 15–22, 2026, Cadets from across North America and beyond will gather in Alberta, Canada, for a week of adventure, fellowship, and spiritual growth under the theme “Mountains of Blessing” (Psalm 125:2).

Kamp Longview will offer:

  • Shared challenges that build teamwork
  • Opportunities to meet Cadets from other regions
  • Meaningful worship and devotions
  • Outdoor adventures in a unique setting

Most importantly, it will create the kind of environment where friendships grow stronger – where boys connect, encourage one another, and build memories that last far beyond the week itself.

More Than Just a Week

Summer events are not just something fun to add to the calendar.

They are a vital part of helping boys grow.

Through extended time together, shared challenges, and a focus on faith, boys develop friendships that support them, encourage them, and help them stand firm.

And those friendships?
They often become one of the greatest blessings of the Cadet experience.
