Building Boys Who Stand Firm
Raising Young Men of Faith in an Ever-Changing World
The world our boys are growing up in looks very different from the one we knew. Values shift, truth feels flexible, and faith can seem optional. Yet in the middle of all that change, one thing remains constant: God’s Word. As parents and counselors, we are called to help our boys build their lives on that unshakable foundation so that they can stand firm when the world around them wavers.
The Challenge
Today’s culture sends mixed and confusing messages about identity, purpose, and truth. Boys are told to “follow their hearts” but are also pressured to fit in and conform. Social media and entertainment often glorify values that run counter to the teachings of Scripture. It is easy for young men to become unsure of who they are or what they believe.
Our boys do not need more noise. They need roots that go deep into the truth of God’s Word. That is where confidence, purpose, and stability begin to grow.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2
The Foundation
Standing firm begins with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Boys need to know not only what they believe, but also why they believe it. They need to experience the difference faith makes in daily life. In Cadets, they find opportunities to do that through Bible lessons, badge work, service projects, and meaningful conversations with godly mentors.
As adults, we have the privilege of showing what standing firm looks like in real life. Boys are watching how we react when we face disappointment, temptation, or hardship. They notice whether our words match our actions. When they see faith lived out with integrity, they begin to understand what it means to stand firm in Christ.
The Practice
Standing firm is not learned through comfort and ease. It is strengthened through challenges. When a Cadet finishes a tough project, faces a fear during a campout, or serves someone in need, he learns perseverance and trust in God. These moments shape his character and teach him that faith is not fragile.
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:13–14
The Call
Culture may shift, but Christ never changes. When we guide our boys toward Him through Scripture, service, and steadfast example, we help them build lives that can withstand any storm. As parents and counselors, we have a shared mission: to raise young men who love God deeply, serve others faithfully, and stand firm in their faith no matter what the world throws their way.
Let us keep building boys who stand firm in their faith, their character, and their love for Christ.
